WHO WE ARE
The Lakeland Society for Truth and Reconciliation is an Indigenous-led nonprofit society. Our membership is open to first generation survivors, intergenerational survivors, their families, First Nations, Inuit, Métis, and non-Indigenous allies from the Lakeland area.
OUR GOALS
Rooted in the TRC's applicable Calls to Action, our goals are:

To educate and bring awareness of the lasting impacts of the Indian Residential School system,

To build relationships based on respect and understanding between Indigenous and non-Indigenous individuals and communities, and

To foster reconciliation and healing in the Lakeland area.

In partnership with the The Bonnyville Friendship Centre , Town of Bonnyville , and Kehewin Cree Nation , we invite you all to attend the Sacred Blessing of the Grounds of our future Community Healing Garden, followed by a celebration for the National Indigenous Peoples Day 2026. Activities are FREE to attend and OPEN to the public.

Blessing of the Grounds Itinerary - Raising of the Tipi and Lighting of the Sacred Fire, Pipe Ceremony, Words from our Dignitaries and Elders/Knowledge Keepers, Grand Entry Procession, Followed by the Blessing of the Grounds, Honouring of the Sacred Fire and Talking Circle.
11:30-12:30 - FREE BBQ Lunch (Hotdogs, Hamburgers and Refreshments)

National Indigenous Peoples Day 2026 Itinerary - Kehewin Native Dance Theatre performances (Dancing the Red Path, Trickster Trilogy). Animal Mask Workshop, Crafting Table, Tiny Top Theatre Explorations, Train Rides, Indigenous Vendors.
